Near the Autzen Mansion (PDX Stairs)

There are over 140 staircases in the Portland area designed to provided faster pedestrian travel between neighborhoods, to shopping and restaurants, and simply just traversing the hilly terrain.

This location has stairs to transit the Alameda ridge. Near the top of the stairs you will find the Autzen Mansion, built in 1926 for Thomas J. Autzen (the Autzen family is who the Oregon Ducks’ stadium is named after). Approximately three blocks from the bottom of the stairs you can find coffee, restaurants and shopping on Fremont Street.

This door is located approximately a third of the way up the 75 stairs of the staircase near a bench that has been set up for a mid-climb rest.

Know Before You Go

  • While there is street parking available at both the top and bottom, it will be easier to find parking near the bottom on Ridgewood Drive.
  • The door is located about a third of the way up the stairs.
